The Health Sciences Collegiate Academy (HSCA) is a four-year program offering Lake County high school students the unprecedented opportunity to explore a career in the health sciences and fast track their career. As the demand for jobs in the healthcare field continues to increase in Central Florida and across the country, this program provides your student with a competitive edge. This free program offers internships and mentoring at South Lake Hospital and the ability to complete a STEM-focused AA degree from Lake-Sumter State College, all before graduating from high school.

At Carver Collegiate, 69 percent of its student body were suspended during the 2012-13 academic year; at and Carver Prep and Sci Academy, the figures were 61 percent and 58 percent, respectively. 3 4 The suspension rates led to the Southern Poverty Law Center sending an open letter to Collegiate Academies. The application to apply for the Arkansas High School Collegiate Academy is now open. The deadline to apply for the collegiate academy is Monday, May 4. Students who will be entering the 10th. With five high schools and two secondary education programs across New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Collegiate Academies serves over 3,500 students and 1,700 alumni. CA’s high schools in New Orleans are Abramson Sci Academy, Livingston Collegiate Academy, George Washington Carver High School, and Rosenwald Collegiate Academy.

Program Path

9th & 10th Grade

• Attend high school at East Ridge, Lake Minneola, South Lake, Montverde Academy, or Pinecrest Lakes Academy Middle High
• Participate in health career exploration activities at LSSC & Orlando Health South Lake Hospital

11th Grade

• Attend LSSC’s South Lake campus full time as dual enrolled student
• Participate in observations at Orlando Health South Lake Hospital

12th Grade

• Attend LSSC’s South Lake campus full time as dual enrolled student
• Participate in job shadowing at Orlando Health South Lake Hospital
• Special recognition of academy completers

Eligibility

9th Grade Enrollment Criteria

• Be an 8th grader entering high school in Lake County
• Earn a 3.0 unweighted GPA or higher in middle school courses
• Submit HSCA application
• Complete an interview with HSCA

11th Grade Continuation Criteria

• Have an unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Have qualifying scores on the PERT
• Be in good conduct standing
• Attend August orientation

Application Process

1. Attend an Information Session
   Please plan to attend one of our informational sessions in January. Students currently in 8th grade at South Lake County middle schools, Montverde Academy, Pinecrest Lakes Academy Middle High, and Imagine South Lake Charter with an unweighted 3.0 GPA or higher will receive a letter to their home address, and students will receive a reminder card at school. If you missed one of our information sessions, you can still review the information presented by downloading the informational session presentation.

2. Complete an Application
   The HSCA application contains five parts: Admission Process and Agreement, a Writing Sample, a Report Card, two Teacher Recommendation forms, and the Honor Code.

3. Group Interview
   HSCA will work with your middle school to set up a 15-minute group interview. The group interview is completed with 2-3 other applicants from your school. Students will be interviewed by 2-3 staff members from the HSCA partner institutions.

Henry Ford Collegiate Academy

The Henry Ford Collegiate Academy allows qualified students to earn both a high school diploma and a 2-year associate’s degree at the conclusion of the 13th grade at no cost to parents or students. To qualify, students must be Dearborn Public Schools students and score college-ready on the PSAT10 test in the spring of the 10th grade.
